Was the first city in Iberia occupied by roman citizens, was founded in 206 BC by the Roman general Publius Cornelius Scipio Africanus in order to settle Roman soldiers wounded in the Battle of Ilipa, where during the Second Punic War, the Carthaginian army (commanded by the General Asdrubal Giscon) was defeated. It is an unusually well-preserved Roman city, Birthplace of two Roman emperors Trajan and Hadrian that were the second and third of the so-called Five Good Emperors.
Emperor Hadrian added temples and rebuilt public buildings; The amphitheater is the most important site of the ruins, seated 25,000 spectators and was the third largest in the Roman Empire. The city's Roman population at the time is estimated to have been only 8000. Following intensive excavations unexpected cobbled Roman streets are visible, mosaic floors are still in situ, and old streets as you tour the ruins of houses, public buildings and various objects of art, others are in the Museo Arqueologico of Seville, as the famous marble colossus of Trajan.
Nowadays the modern town of Santiponce overlies the "old city" of Republican and the pre-Roman Iberian city.

The Tarshish and Phoenicians visited these lands more than three thousand years ago. Cadiz is acknowledged by historians as the oldest city still inhabited in Iberian peninsula and is the most ancient city, around 1,100 B.C., in Western Europe. The Romans and the Visigoths also left their marks in Cadiz.
After 711, Cadiz was ruled by the Muslims until Alfonso X reconquered it in the middle of the 13th century and it became part of the Kingdom of Castilla.
The 18th century came to fruition with the drafting of the constitution in 1812 in Cadiz.
Excellent gastronomy and wineries, great day out with many routes to explore, from castle route to white village route, a true personal experience.

Rainer M. Rilker wrote about Ronda:
‘…the incomparable phenomenon of this city, set over the mass of two stones cut with a pick and separated by the narrow and deep gorge of the river, it could correspond to that other city, revealed in the dreams. The spectacle of this city is indescribable, and, around it, an ample valley with working fields, oaks and olive trees. And there in the distance, as if it had recovered all its strength, the pure mountain rises, range after range, until it forms the most splendid background.’
