The City, founded by the Romans and ruled by Muslims for over 500 years, retains in its configuration the physical integrity of the original buildings and the juxtaposition of the various major historical stages.

Could you imagine for a while a huge mosque with its minaret? This is today the Cathedral with its bell-tower, and close to this religious building, the Moorish Palace residence of the Moslem governor, built in a lush style? This is nowadays the Alcazar used even today as the Spanish royal family's residence in this city; notably the environments, distances and streets are preserved as originally.

This is the city that owns a masterpiece of Almohad architecture, The Giralda, the former minaret; the largest Gothic edifice in Europe, with its five naves, The Cathedral, founded in 1403 on the site of a former mosque, where is held aloft by four giant statues the tomb of Christopher Columbus,   and one of the most beautiful architectural works of the Renaissance its elliptical space of the Cabildo, created by Hernán Ruiz; the Alcázar constructed in the 10th century as the palace of the Moslem governor, that bear exceptional testimony to the civilization of the Alhomads and to that of Christian Andalusia, which was thoroughly imbued with Moorish influences, retaining the same purpose for which it was originally intended: as a residence of monarchs and heads of state, and the Archive of indies, home to the greatest collection of documentation concerning relations with the New World, one of the clearest examples of Spanish Renaissance architecture.

The Giralda was re-designed in the Renaissance period by Hernán Ruiz its "chapter house" is the first known example of the use of the elliptical floor plan in the western world and influenced the construction of numerous towers in Spain, and in America, The real fun is to climb this famous landmark, there are ramps, which are much easier to climb than stairs. The views over the city from the top are stunning. It is all very impressive.

During two centuries Seville was the hub of the Spanish monarchy and played a major role in Latin America following by Columbus's travels; within El Alcazar, in the Admirals' Hall, plans were made, for a number of history's greatest explorations, notably the circumnavigation of the globe (1519-1522) by Magellan and Sebastián Elcano.

Seville boasts the only inland port in Spain, the Guadalquivir River is navigable for 80 km inland, helping intensively to consolidate the Spanish "Golden Age" in terms of power royal sovereignty and the trading hegemony that Spain acquired through the New World when Seville became the economic center of the Spanish Empire in 1492 , A. Morgado described this facts: A thing of admiration not seen in any other port is the sight of carts dragged by four oxen which, when the fleets come in, carry the silver and gold bars from the portside to the Trading House of the Indies,” “No less marvelous is the sight of the enormous riches accumulated in many streets in Seville inhabited by merchants from Flanders, Greece, Genoa, France, Italy, England and other parts, and from the Indies and Portugal ... The area is full of silversmiths, jewellers, sculptors, silk weavers and haberdashers of immense wealth”.

Seville is a city of passion, flamboyance, intrigue, and romance that retains an hybrid of contrasts visible at every turn, that embraces and mesmerize in equal measure. Hispalis at Roman times, then Isbiliya, and today Seville embraces an unique compendium of cultures, as feeling itself fully satisfied, likes saying "from Seville to heaven"
